Jaroslaw Szostakowski was born on July 4, 1967 in Warsaw, Poland. He received both his M.S. and Ph.D. (with highest honor) degrees in Electrical Engineering from Warsaw University of Technology, Warsaw, Poland, in 1991 and 1996, respectively. His M.S. thesis, titled "Frequency methods of noisy - blurred image filtering", was honored by Warsaw Branch of Polish Electrical Engineers Society, as the Best Thesis from Electrical Engineering Faculty in 1991. He received Simens Promotion Award for marked Ph.D. and D.Sc. Thesis. He joined the Institute of Control and Industrial Electronics at this University, as a Research Assistant in February 1995, where he is currently an Assistant Professor. In 1997 he received the domestic fellowship for young scientists from Foundation for Polish Science and the Award of the Warsaw University of Technology President for works on image processing.

Dr. Szostakowski is a chairman of Image Processing Workgroup at the Tempus Phare Joint European Project "Control and Management of Technological Processes" (S_JEP 11172-96).

He is a member of SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering and IEEE - Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and a reviewer for the Graphical Models and Image Processing.
